Sculpture #2

For my next sculpting endeavour, I decided to use waterbased clay.
My subject would be - hands.
have always found difficulty drawing hands, so I could feel a challenge on the way!
I started off with sketching my own hand to get a feel of the contours.

then I made an armature from aluminium wire - I used thicker aluminium wire to create the shape i wanted the hand to be formed in, and wound a thinner aluminium wire around it so it would help to hold the clay on.

Then I cut the clay into manageable slabs using a wire cutter and formed it round the armature

then just started working into it using my own hand as a reference.

I think I may have used a little too much wire and kind of wish I made less of an armature because I'm having problems with the armature poking through and having to constantly readjust the position of the hand.
