Wednesday 30th

Visited a cemetery in Elderslie; arrangements to borrow some grass mat to cover the mound. There was to be no hole in the ground so the mound had to block where the hole should be. Apparently when a grave is dug, out of courtesy to the relatives, the grounds men lay grass over the earth mound.

Nothings ever simple- the mat was heavy and so meeting with the boys had to be coordinated and I had the added pressure of knowing we couldn’t shoot anything without it. I doubt the audience could stretch their imaginations any further and accept a cardboard mound.
Met a really nice man, Willie the manager of the cemetery, who in the spirit of things, shared his stories of being on TV with me. It seems he played in a country western band and they had been asked to play as band to a country western singer in a short film. I told him what I was doing with the film and we talked about the mechanics of film production. He asked me what a grip was. Of that I have no clue.. yet. But I do know have a clear idea of what goes on in an art department on a film. It’s improved my ability to organise myself by a million. I write everything down in my wee books. I’ve even started making lists of things to do over summer. I’m compiling a list of exactly what I need to get done in my 3rd year – personal project wise – and now I find I’m being inspired by everything and everyone I come across. It’s really cool – because I have a feeling I know where I’m going now.
