a souvenir from todays visit - a collection of the costume designs from 'The Marriage' designed by Pamela Howard.
Today my school had a visit from a famous designer and author of the book 'What is Scenography', Pamela Howard.
I was completely awe-inspired with what she had to say.
She talked about what scenography was and why she used that term instead of 'theatre design' and entralled her listeners with her little anecdotes that described her feelings towards her career.
What stuck in my mind the most was when she said the most important thing to remember as an artist was to never stop dreaming.
An inspirational piece of advice if ever I heard it.
Always have a multitude of dream projects waiting on the back burner ready to do if given the opportunity.
Pamela is involved with the 'Martinu Revisited' project, celebrating 50 years after the death of the composer. She has designed the set for 'The Marriage' and brought with her some of the costume and set designs. It's interesting to point out that her costume designs were presented on the back of paper shopping bags that she had collected throughout the years. I get the impression that she likes to shock in her own way and desires to do things a little differently. A little eccentric maybe. I admire that about her.
I appreciate that she took time out of her busy schedule to come and speak with us and show us some of her work. It made me interested in something I otherwise wouldn't have realised existed.
