Friday 18th

After breakfast, quick rush to the first shooting location and had to do a quick painting job on the outside of a shop. The crew were almost at my back so I had to be quick. just a case of covering an existing red with a spot of grey paint. The director didn't like the newness of the new paint job so I had to think on my feet and use what I had at hand. I mixed a little mud and water and fliked it onto the paint. It seemed to rub down well - job's a good un.
It was exciting. Just working around people with a sense of urgency and focus.
I also got to hang about on set with intent to dress any areas needed as they shot the next few scenes.

Paul and Monica - standby props

This time I was working with Paul (stand by props) and Monica (standby art director).

Paul's job is to be on hand with any prop fixes or quick changes to art department and Monica ensures it looks good and is in keeping with the films themes. When I got a chance to chat, I asked them a bit about how they got into and how their careers had journeyed. They told me stories of previous jobs - it was important to do a really good job while I had the opportunity as getting a job was often based on word of mouth. If you aquire a good reputation, people will ask you back.
Set dressing pretty much consisted of adding posters to break up the visual monotony of metal grey shop shutters and dirtying them down for age.
Today was the first day I had properly been on set. Was pretty exciting.
Nice finish to an interesting week.
