Gradshow preparation pt2

♥ cardboard!

With all the locations painted and decorated we had time to work on our personal stand in the 'gallery'.
Below are images of our bar area.

The Counterweight Bar - get it?

In previous years I felt the management and technology students in my course were less represented in the gallery space. I suppose studying Applieds Arts and Design, we had actual art pieces to display, where as stage managers, lighting and sound and TSM students struggled to decorate their area.
This year was different. Everyone was really creative - there seemed to be a lot of stencilling going on.
It was brilliant! I just wanted to encourage it and maybe as we dabbled in each others disciplines, we'd learn something new.

One day I walked into the Chandler (our gallery space!) and a few of the students specialising in lighting for theatre, had made the Showcase sign complete with programmed light chase. Was really impressed :)
Really proud of my year for taking it to a different level.

The wee shack

The centrepiece for my stand was intended to be my dryad sculpture. In the excitement of the journey with that piece, I just didn't consider how vunerable she'd be til the last minute :/
The Chandler's air con was probably overheating ironicly and it was at times like a sauna.
Ideally I wanted her in a glass cabinet and luckily there was one nearby. It was outside the venue we had our gallery in, which was pretty handy, but  I no longer had a main piece to my stand. I think it suffered a little and it looked a little bare.
Also, I had spent a huge amount of time on my website, yet I didn't have the means necessary to display it. I made a little pocket size portfolio, but the lack of centre focus just made my stand look empty.

Certainly compared to my neighbour Luisa Coccoza, displaying her scenic talent.

How talented are my friends! Eilidh and Rachel are graduating this year as set and costume designers.
These two images are examples of our only costume major, Olivia Hale.

precision is the key
